It started at the cemetery. I knew it was you!
A few weeks ago, I was feeling like I needed a little break, a little quiet time. When I’m feeling like I need a quick escape, I often drive over to our local cemetery and sit with my dad by his tombstone. It’s always so quiet and peaceful there. I can sit there and just be. It feels fantastic. I allow myself that time to sit quietly and do nothing but connect. I connect to Source Energy (some call that God/Universe/Divine/Angels, etc. choose the word you resonate with).
So, I drove out to the cemetery on a beautiful, clear, sunny day. When I arrived, it dawned on me that I hadn’t talked to my dad about my new car. I got a new car last week and it is awesome! I love it! (Obviously he knew about it, but we can all agree that part of the fun about new, exciting things happening in our lives is when you get to tell others). I proceeded to gab away at my dad about my new wheels. I know I don’t have to go to the cemetery to talk to him, but the reason I went there was because I knew it would be uninterrupted quiet, peaceful time. I was sitting in my car, as I chatted with him. My hands were resting in my jacket pockets when suddenly I felt something inside. I could tell it was a coin. I pulled it out to get a closer look. It was a penny. I don’t remember putting a penny in my pocket, but OK maybe I did at some point. As I stared more closely at this penny, I noticed that it was super shiny and new. Not a scratch on it. It was a 2022 penny. I laughed out loud and thanked my dad for the slap-in-the-face obvious sign he shared with me to show he was there. My dad often shows me he’s around and listening by leaving physical proof like coins (and feathers and deer and owls). I held this penny in my hand, flipping it over and over with my fingers. I decided to get out of my car. I walked over to his tombstone and placed the shiny penny on top of it. We talked a little longer and then I said goodbye. I got back into my shiny, new car, and drove away with a wonderful feeling of peace and calm.
I didn’t tell anyone about my penny story. I didn’t feel the need to share this moment with anyone else, until the clothes dryer incident this morning. My son was looking for a certain hoodie he likes to wear. I remembered it was in the dryer and told him to look there. He proceeded to the laundry room and emptied all of the clothes out of the dryer. He walked by me with a heaping basket, full of his clothes. He brought his freshly laundered clothes up to his bedroom to put them away. A few moments later he appeared before me holding a pair of pants and said, “Are these still wet?” I felt the waistband and indeed, they were still wet. I told him to sit and finish his breakfast before it got cold, and I would toss his pants back in the dryer. So away I go, back to the laundry room. I opened the dryer door, ready to toss his pants in for a quick dry, when I noticed something. Right there in plain sight, resting on the ledge of the lint trap, as if it were intentionally placed there ever-so-perfectly, upright, straight and the head of the coin facing me, was a shiny, new dime. My eyes about popped out of my head. I peered closer and was amazed at how this dime was simply resting there. What the heck?! I picked up the dime to have a closer look. Not a scratch on it! Guess what year was printed on the dime? Yep, 2022! I was so floored that I actually laughed out loud. Literally. Laughed out loud! In that moment, I knew my dad was with me. I knew he was saying hello. I knew he heard me at the cemetery. I knew!
I returned to the kitchen where my kids were eating breakfast. They both looked up at me and said, “What were you laughing at? We could hear you.” I told them the story of how I left a penny for grandpa at the cemetery, and grandpa just left a dime for me in the dryer. Of course, my ego mind jumped in wanting to offer a ‘perfectly good scientific explanation about the dime,’ but the truth is, there’s NO WAY that dime could have rested there the entire time my son removed ALL of his stuff from the dryer. He had a basket full of clothes he had pulled from the dryer moments prior. I asked my son if he saw the dime. He laughed and said no. I led my kids back to the laundry room to show them the dime, still resting there, waiting to be seen. We all laughed. I knew. We all knew. We all knew it was you, dad! We all agreed that there was just no way that penny could have stayed there, in its perfect, upright, head facing toward me position without getting knocked into the clothes, or out onto the floor by my sons emptying of the dryer. No way! Pretty cool, right?
You may be asking; how do I know it’s my dad? Well, my dad and I talk often. And when I say talk, I really mean communicate. Spirit (Source energy, our loved ones, etc.) doesn’t talk to me with words. They communicate with me through my thoughts and my senses. They project their thoughts to me and I translate them into meaningful language I can understand for myself and for my clients. Spirit also makes me feel certain emotions and occasionally physical symptoms, too.
Have you had any moments where you just knew it was a loved one popping in to say hello? Maybe you got a sign like a coin, a feather, a song on the radio, repeating numbers, goosebumps, animals, dreams, etc. Trust those signs. Your loved ones are always around. They are trying to communicate with you. Always. Are you listening? Are you trusting?

P.s. One more sign…On my drive home from the cemetery, I was rounding the corner about 1/4 mile from my home, and out of nowhere, a deer slowly walked across the road, right in front of me. Walked. It was NOT in a hurry. When it got to the side of the road, it stopped and peered over its shoulder to look at me. It didn’t run away scared like deer usually do. This one stood and stared at me. I laughed. I knew! I opened my window, snapped this picture and said, “Hi dad!”
And there you go folks. Another sign. Thanks, dad! Love you! I hear you! I see you! I knew it was you. :)
