Buddy the Elf once told me...
“Work is fun!” - Buddy the Elf.
Do you know who Buddy the elf is? It is inevitable this time of year that we watch the movie Elf at least five times. Okay fine, ten times. LOL. And each time I watch it, I laugh as if it was my first time seeing it.
The movie Elf was released in 2003. Even though it's been almost 20 years, I still remember the first time I saw it and the quote above that buddy said while chatting with his brother in the elevator.
Remembering little things like quotes or specific details in a conversation, are signs, and as I type this, my left ear is ringing something fierce. This is another sign. This is actually a big ah-ha moment for me! I'm reflecting on this small, simple quote and I can FEEL the message all over again, as if I just learned it today.
Do you even remember the scene where this quote was spoken? If not, then this quote didn’t resonate with you at that time because it wasn't meant for you. You didn’t need that message and therefore it went ‘in one ear and out the other.’ Maybe this quote, or a different one, will come back when you’re meant to hear it, and maybe it won’t. Trust!
What I know is that I was absolutely meant to HEAR this quote. I remember the feelings I had after hearing Buddy exclaim those words. I felt sad. Even though Buddy said it with a lot of excitement, I didn’t agree. I didn’t believe him. I didn’t understand that statement AT ALL! "Work is fun." That’s crazy talk. That’s nonsense. That’s the perfect line in a movie because it doesn’t reflect real life. These were the thoughts running through my brain at the time. I argued with myself about the truth of this statement. How can people say work is fun? Ridiculous! Who in the world would ever say that their job is fun? Anyone? Anyone raising their hand here? I'm super happy for you if you are. I was not raising my hand. I am now.
I did not believe that statement for one second. And, if I’m being completely honest, I didn’t believe that statement for years and years. I do now! That wise statement from Buddy the Elf runs true for me today. I love my job!! Work is SOOOOO much fun! I cannot wait to go to work. Do you feel the same? Do you absolutely love your job? Maybe you love your job most days. Maybe you don’t love your job most days. I’d like to invite you to reflect on what comes up for you when I ask that question: Do you love your job?
As I reflected on this BIG message from Buddy this morning, I decided to tap into my favorite oracle card deck. This card, “Follow Your Bliss” popped out of the deck. Of course, it did, right!? The card reads:
FOLLOW YOUR BLISS: My soul sings with joy.
Are you following your bliss? Does your soul sing with joy?
Take some time and let the message from this card sit with you. Lean into the feelings that come up. What emotions are triggered? Maybe today is the day that you take one small action step toward following your bliss. If not today, when? When will you allow yourself to take that first (maybe scary step) toward the life you want; the life you deserve. You do understand, believe, and trust that you GET to live the life of your dreams? It is your birth right! You GET to be happy and leap with joy, daily. Let me see your leap ;)
