Spirit wants to talk. What's the Rush?

Do you walk with speed, purpose and determination? When you’re walking with speed, purpose and determination, are you thinking, “I have to walk fast. I need to get my exercise done. I need to hurry up. Go. Go. Go. If I walk fast, I burn more calories.” Sometimes I do.

Do you walk with with flow and steadiness? When you’re walking with flow and at a steady pace, are you thinking, “I’m not walking fast, but at least I’m getting my steps in. I’m getting some exercise and I’m moving my body, so this is a good thing. I’m being healthy. I’m doing it. I can check this off of my to-do list. ” Sometimes I do.

Do you walk with ease, joy, contentment and thankfulness? When you walk with ease, joy, contentment and thankfulness, do you enjoy your walk more? Do you feel the crunch of the snow under your feel? Do you hear the squeak from the snow on those bitterly cold days? Do you hear the birds singing to you? Are there birds around me? Do you gaze at the sky? Is it blue? Is it grey? Do you appreciate the sunshine when you see it? Do you feel the wind on your face? Is it snowing? Are the snowflakes big or small? Do you feel a sense of calmness and peace? Do you feel stress free? Sometimes I do.

Why is it that more often than not, that we rush, rush, rush throughout our day? We rush, rush, rush throughout our week, month, and even throughout the years? We often feel a need to move with hurried feet. We need to get that to-do list done. We feel this way day after day. Why? Are we appreciating anything when we’re in this rush-rush-rush state of mind? There are so many little things that occur throughout our days that we need to be thankful for. We need to take some time to slow down, flow, JUST BE and enjoy.

Matthew Broderick’s character in the 1986 film (am I dating myself here?), Ferris Bueller’s Day Off said it pretty well. He said, “Life moves pretty fast. If you don’t stop to look around once in awhile, you might miss it.” I agree! Don’t you?

So I took a walk today. Keep in mind, I live in Upper Michigan. So yes, it was chilly and icy, but it was rejuvenating. I made a conscious effort to SLOW DOWN and look around. I tried to enjoy and observe the beauty around me. It was amazing! I was relaxed and joyful. I thought to myself, this is beautiful and I’m glad I didn’t miss it.

When you are relaxed and your mind is clear, messages from Spirit pop in. They pop in as quick ‘thoughts’ and then they are gone. Messages feel like your own thoughts, that’s why we can miss them. The difference is, Spirit messages feel random and disconnected from your everyday thought loop. THESE are the messages from Spirit. Trust them! Spirit talks to us all the time, but we are so busy rushing through our day that all of their loving, guiding messages get lost in the hustle. If only we could SLOW DOWN. Wait! We can. Take a walk. Relax, enjoy. Slow down. Then listen. Spirit wants to talk. After all, what’s the rush?
